I am going to Slovenia soon. So, I thought I would brush up on my general knowledge and learn a little something about this European country. I have selected a few juicy morsels for your perusal below.
- Slovenia has been populated since the Stone Age.
- In Slovenia, the sun shines approximately 2,000 hours per year.
- The average temperatures are -2°C in January and 21°C in July.
- Slovenia is dominated by the colour green.
I also found out from other sources that;
- The majority of Slovenes (almost 60%) are Roman Catholics
- Slovenia is a parliamentary democracy
- Slovenia has roughly 2 million people.
- Slovenians speak Slovenian, a language which features singular, plural and has the dual: a special grammatical form which is a linguistic rarity. I think it is a latin thing.
- Slovenians have a successful football team (soccer), world class skiers and a very good 800 metre runner named Jolanda Ceplak
- Slovenia is attractive to tourists for its mountains, lakes, skiiing and food among many other things.
- 'Prosim', means 'I beg your pardon'
I want to go to Slovenia because I hear the beer is great and the food is delicious. If I can have the beer, food and mountain views all in one I will be even happier.
At the moment I am in a pizza mood so here is a picture of a Slovenian pizza. It is supposedly almost two feet in diameter.
Mmmm pizza. Slovenia, I can't wait
