I have always liked watches.  A couple of years ago I spent a few hundred dollars on a Citizen watch with all the bells and whistles.  My friends and family thought it was quite a lot of money to spend on a watch but I thought it worth while.  Strangely after the purchase I wanted to buy another but in time the urge weakened.

I thought I had quenched the thirst but this week, after sending my watch in for a service, the desire to own more than one watch made it presence felt once more.  A purchase here and a purchase there has led to an inundated letterbox and I feel a little sheepish over the indulgence.

It turns out I am not alone.  Via a well known search engine I was able to find Watchuseek, one of the world's biggest watch communities boasting well over 62,000 members.  Many, if not most, of these members are ardent watch collectors.

My pithy little collection of three watches wouldn't even raise an eyebrow let alone generate much interest.  Some members have extensive collections of high end watch each costing thousands of dollars.

Deluxe brands like Rolex and Omega are common.  Others like myself are content to slowly build a collection of so called 'affordables'.  That is, watches roughly 300 dollars and under.  Some even prefer to collect one brand in particular and the Casio GShock range is popular.

Of particular note on Watchuseek is the absence of watch snobbery.  Instead, value for money and educated purchase decisions are high on the agenda.  Personal taste is rarely questioned.  There are many threads started by new collectors seeking help filled with advice from patient and experienced watch aficionados.  Reviews are readily offered and the sales corner section of the website thrives.

It is in this thriving community that my interest in watches has not only been rekindled but is now a raging fire burning its way through my bank balance.  I'm not sure how long this addiction will last but I know I am going to enjoy the ride.  Look forward to more watch related posts soon.
