I am going to Slovenia soon.  So, I thought I would brush up on my general knowledge and learn a little something about this European country.  I have selected a few juicy morsels for your perusal below.

According to a Slovenian Government website (http://www.ukom.gov.si/eng/slovenia/in-brief/);
  1. Slovenia has been populated since the Stone Age.
  2. In Slovenia, the sun shines approximately 2,000 hours per year.
  3. The average temperatures are -2°C in January and 21°C in July.
  4. Slovenia is dominated by the colour green.
I also found out from other sources that;
  • The majority of Slovenes (almost 60%) are Roman Catholics
  • Slovenia is a parliamentary democracy
  • Slovenia has roughly 2 million people.
  • Slovenians speak Slovenian, a language which features singular, plural and has the dual: a special grammatical form which is a linguistic rarity.  I think it is a latin thing.
  • Slovenians have a successful football team (soccer), world class skiers and a very good 800 metre runner named Jolanda Ceplak
  • Slovenia is attractive to tourists for its mountains, lakes, skiiing and food among many other things.
  • 'Prosim', means 'I beg your pardon'
I want to go to Slovenia because I hear the beer is great and the food is delicious.  If I can have the beer, food and mountain views all in one I will be even happier.

At the moment I am in a pizza mood so here is a picture of a Slovenian pizza.  It is supposedly almost two feet in diameter.

Mmmm pizza.  Slovenia, I can't wait

A guest arrived today.  An amicable fellow.  He tells me folks weren't too kind to him where he came from.  I don't know why that would be.  Anyway the dude is a blast.  Things here tonight have been 'sweet as' Bro.

G'day FP. Life here is 'Sweet' Bro!

For the confused; the little fellah was a regular at Feral Possum's work where it appears he was dubbed HH and constantly ridiculed and belittled.  I took umbrage, as I am sometimes want to do, and offered HH our humble home lest the constant harassment scar.

Prison Break Torrents PDF Print E-mail

I like torrents.  And a website about torrents that I go to frequently is TorrentFreak.  Today they have an article about the fact that over a million people downloaded the first two episodes of Prison Break's new season.  That is a lot of downloads when you consider that televised viewers number only five or six times that.

The article makes two interesting arguments in favour of torrenting.

1.  People are not downloading TV torrents because they are free.

Torrentors download their tv shows for availability and the freedom to watch them when they want, not when a television network wants them to.  People don't download torrents to avoid advertisments or to rebel against the 'capitalist establishment' (or at least most don't).

2.  The producer of Heroes and Lost likes the fact that his shows are popular with torrentors.

Jesse Alexander argues that torrentors increase the popularity of his shows.

I like torrents even more now, if that were even possible.

EDIT: The Grey Man, The Chemist has bemoaned to me the fact that I haven't cited enough sources in this article.  This is just a cover for his bias against torrents and Torrentors.  Torrents rule man!  You see ...

Never again will I have to stay up until '11:30 Tuesday night' for a show that screens prime time in the UK or US of A.  or Wherev of A.  Now I can wake up at 2:30 am/3:30pm/whenever and watch it :p

Never again will I get hooked on a show only to have it cancelled from screening on Aussie TV mid season when it continues to be aired overseas.

Never again will I have to suffer the outrageous whims of an overpaid TV exec who wants to change the timeslot of my favourite TV show three times a week without warning.

Aaaah Torrents!

EDIT #1324 Apologies to The Chemist.  I may have misconstrued his comment :)

Today I am not going in to work.  Instead I am staying at home with tissues reamed up each nostril.  I am suffering the second bout of 'flu' in as many weeks.  Anyone would think my immune system was a little weak at the moment.

Don't think that I am bludging though.  I will still be working.  I have two class sets of senior assignments to mark by Thursday.  My contagious and snotty condition may rule out marking at school and watching my seniors plough their way through QCS, but my will to finish this term properly will not be denied.

Term 3 here in Queensland may see off Winter and welcome in Spring but it also bears witness to the ferocity of flu season and frantic preparation of senior work folios.  Flu season and senior folios don't exactly get along but conquering both is essential for every senior teacher.

I will be back at work tomorrow when the flood of goop has subsided and my senior marking is complete.

Sentences

Sentences are made of two parts: the subject and the predicate.

The subject is the person or thing that acts or is described in the sentence. The predicate, on the other hand, is that action or description.

Complete sentences need both the subject and the predicate.
